Interview outfits for men; Formal Business Environment

According to Workpac, “statistics show that 55% of first impressions are determined by the way you dress and walk through the door in a job interview while 65% of hiring managers say clothes can be the deciding factor between two similar candidates.” Don't worry, you do not have to spend a lot of money or skim through fashion magazines for what to wear to an interview. Men's formal outfits are relatively easy to put together; with a few pieces, you will be able to put together an outfit that is stylish and professional. Note that whether the workplace is in a formal business environment or a casual setting, the way that you present yourself for the interview matters.

Similar to the image below, a nice neutral colour jacket, pants, white shirt, tie, shoes that match the leather belt and a nice watch is ideal for an interview.

What 'Not' To Wear To An Interview Attire

Now that you have an idea of what to wear to a job interview, let us now look at what not to wear. These outfits described, should be avoided when preparing for an interview, if you are seeking to receive a “you have been accepted for the job” call from the employer.

    • Do not overdo your outfit with multiple bright colors. Instead, stick to neutrals such as navy or charcoal gray but add an appropriate color with your tie and subtle pattern to match the suit.

    • Avoid bow ties and busy patterns; choose a conservative tie with minimal patterns that complements the outfit well. Avoid folding/rolling your pants. Instead, ensure that your pants are the right length, and the hem gently skims the top of your dress shoe.

    • Avoid wearing a simple T Shirt and jeans pants with sneakers or slippers.

    • Avoid excessive jewelry. A professional watch and a single ring are suitable for an interview. Too much jewelry gives the impression of flashiness. Avoid chains, bracelets and earrings.
